“Theology” is the investigation of divine and religious questions. Who is God? Are all religions true? These are the types of questions that theology attempts to answer.

Introduction to Theology

Theology is the study of God and religious truth. The term “theology” comes from the Greek “theos” (God) and “Logos” (reasoning). It is reasoning about God.

Theology is divided into several areas of study:

  • Theology Proper: the study of God’s attributes, nature, and relation to the world.
  • Biblical: the study and interpretation of the Bible.
  • Eschatology: the study of the end (end of history & afterlife)
  • Christology: the study of Jesus Christ.
  • Providence: the study of God’s sovereignty over people and history.
  • Ecclesiology: the study of church practices, structures, and history.
  • Pneumatology: the study of the Holy Spirit.
  • Soteriology: the study of salvation.
  • Hamartiology: the study of sin.
  • Anthropology: the study of man.

Theologian: Greg Boyd

Greg Boyd is an insightful theologian that I frequently reference. He has quite the academic background, graduating from Yale & Princeton. Greg was also the Professor of Theology at Bethel University for 16 years. He is the founder and senior pastor of Woodland Hills Church.

Greg has written many interesting books. There are insightful articles, essays, and a blog on his website. His sermons and lectures can be found on the Woodland Hills website. He has many video clips on YouTube.

Here is a video concerning his conversion to Christ and the struggles he faced:
